CREATING A SPACE OF TOLERANCE, A NEUTRAL SPACE IN WHICH INNOVATION CAN OCCUR, WHERE WE CAN EXAMINE OUR PREJUDICE IN ORDER TO FIND A MEETING POINT
In Israel we witness many manifestations of racism and hatred between different groups (i.e.) Jews and Arabs, native Israelis and new immigrants, religious and secular, resulting from prejudice and fear of others. These are phenomena that have become extreme in the last few years generating social unrest and segregation.
Responding to this challenge, our objective is to give youth the opportunity to replace attitudes of prejudice, racism and hatred towards the other with values of tolerance, mutual respect and understanding through the application of the unique and innovative Pedagogy of the Third Millennium (PTM) methodology.
After launching a successful first pilot workshop in 2014, we are building partnerships with schools from mixed areas such as Jerusalem, Tel Aviv/Jaffa, the Negev and Haifa. The beneficiaries will be organized in workshops in which they will learn to meet each other and define common values through the process of melting wax and shaping new candles. The high symbolism for hope underlined by the candles as well as the methodologies issued from the Pedagogy of the Third Millennium have proven to be successful in bridging conflicting identities as well as in producing sustainable results as they redefine the core thinking paths of the beneficiaries.
The beneficiaries are teenagers aged from 13 to 18 years old and coming from different groups that usually don’t get to meet with one another (Jews and Arabs, Bedouins, Druzes, new immigrants, religious/secular, etc). Our objective is to reach 200 youth in 2015.
Our partners are schools and local educational institutions that will be empowered in their capacities to teach for tolerance and reduce prejudice among their youth.
ADDED VALUE: INVESTING IN INTERNAL INDIVIDUAL PEACE FOR AN INCLUSIVE AND PEACEFUL SOCIETY
The PTM methodology is unique in that it leads to first reshape the way that each individual addresses its internal conflicts for thereafter be able to elevate this state of mind to the wider community.
Our project provides a worldwide message for peace by demonstrating a working model.
We give an opportunity to go beyond the fear and prejudice of each of the differing sides.
Reducing hatred and violence towards the other.
A neutral space and a creative medium as tools for real individual and social change
